The country's export and import volume through air-cargo has increased by
around nine per cent this fiscal (2010-11) over that of the previous fiscal.
Airlines have handled around 149,210 tonnes
of cargoes from and to Bangladesh this fiscal (until May 2011).
The Federation of Asia Pacific Aircargo Associations (FAPAA) 38th
executive council meeting (ECM)
preparatory committee convener Capt Md Saifur Rahman said these at a press
conference on overview of the 38th ECM at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the city
Tuesday.
"Around 25 foreign airlines are now involved in handling air-cargoes at
Shahjalal International Airport. Of them 19 airlines are operating directly.
Bangladesh has been elected as honorary
auditor of the FAPAA for the first time in its 38th ECM," he said.
He said the meeting will strengthen relationship among the FAPAA member
countries and expand trade horizon.
Delegates from 15 member countries of the FAPAA took part in the meeting
that continued from June 26 to June 28.
The federation has already introduced e-air wage bill through signing a deal
with the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The FAPAA Chairman Samson Pao, Vice-Chairman Paul Tsui, honorary secretary
Willie Van Heusden, Treasurer Joseph Khoo, and Executive Director Brian
Lovell along with BAFFA (Bangladesh Freight
Forwarders Association) were present in the press conference.
