Highlights/Explanation
Release of New Equipment
Note 1.1 Any newly purchased equipment which is used for inspection measurement or test shall be recorded in the Equipment List (Attachment MA/QD20/001) by the Warehouse Officer and to be subjected to the calibration control system. the frequency for calibration shall be determined by the Warehouse Officer with consultation for the QM.
.
Note 1.2 If applicable, the manufacturer's certificate shall be obtained and filed. In case where it is not available, the Warehouse Officer withe consultation of the QM shall assess whether a calibration is needed and action taken to fulfill this need. As a general rule, he shall decide that newly purchased equipment whose accuracy is not affected by transportation do not need external calibration. The manufacturer's certificate shall be used as the document for establishing traceability of the equipment.
.
Note 1.3 Before the equipment is issued for usage, a Calibration Tag (Attachment MA/QD20/003) or vendor calibration sticker shall be affixed to the equipment indicating the next due date for calibration. This due date shall be recorded in the Equipment List. Also, the location/area as to where the equipment shall be situated shall be updated in the Equipment List to ease physical traceability of the equipment.
.
Note 1.4 The equipment shall now be issued and ready for usage.
.
Calibration Control
Note 2.1 Refer to Equipment Calibration Schedule, (Attachment MA/QD20/002) to identify equipment which is due for calibration. All instruments in use shall be calibrated before the expiry of the calibration due date as specified on the schedule.

The frequency of calibration shall be determined by the Warehouse Officer, in general, by its frequency of use, stability of the equipment and accuracy needed. This frequency shall be recorded in the Equipment List.
.

Note 2.2 The Warehouse Officer shall make appropriate arrangements to have the equipment calibrated as and when calibration is due, or whenever there is reason to suspect the accuracy is in doubt.
.
Note 2.3 Calibration shall be made against a certified standard or instrument of a higher accuracy and is traceable to the national or international recognized standards. To establish traceability of measurements, the equipment can either be sent to or serviced by an external laboratory whose calibration standards are traceable to SISIR or to another country's national standards laboatory or to send it to SISIR's metrology laboratory itself.
.
Note 2.4

The accuracy of the equipment shall be verified and adjusted to the required accuracy. If the equipment is found to be out of calibration (inaccurate), previous measurement results obtained using the particular equipment shall be assessed and the validity of the results reaffirmed.
.

Note 2.5 Externally calibrated equipment shall be issued with a certificate by the laboratory concerned. The acceptability of the certificate with the details of calibration shall be determined by the Quality Management and if necessary, he shall request for another more detailed report. Record and certificates shall be filed and made available upon request.
.
Note 2.6 Equipment calibrated shall be affixed with the laboratory's calibration tag. In the absence of such identification, an In-House Calibration Tag shall be attached to the equipment attesting to the status of calibration.
