Taiwan’s IT Competitiveness Ranks Sixth in the World

Taiwan’s IT competitiveness ranks sixth in the world, and third in Asia after Japan and South Korea, according the “The Means to Compete – Benchmarking IT Industry Competitiveness” report issued by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) on July 11, 2007. Sixty-four countries were covered in the report.

The report points out that Taiwan , Japan , South Korea , and Australia placed near the top of the ranking because of the good competitive environment those countries provide for their information technology (IT) industries. Taiwan ranked especially high in R&D environment and human capital, placing third and seventh in the world, respectively. The report also indicated, however, that Taiwan needs more effort in the areas of business environment and legal environment.

This is the first report that the EIU compiled on IT industry competitiveness. Six items of comparison were used: business environment, IT infrastructure, human capital, legal environment, R&D environment, and support for IT industry environment.
