IBM Doubles Size of Taiwan R&D Team


       In recognition of Taiwan¡¦s capabilities in the field of research and development, IBM has announced a doubling of the manpower complement of its xSeries Taiwan Development Center within three years, to 400. In addition to continuing development work on IBM System x server products, the expanded center will also introduce three advanced technologies¡XIBM Blade Server, Power Chip, and Retail Store Solution (RSS)¡Xwith the aim of creating additional business opportunities and profits. The production value of these three new technologies is expected to reach US$7 billion, and the accumulated investment in related hardware R&D will amount to NT$5 billion. The information technology giant hopes that this will spur the upgrading of Taiwan¡¦s IT industry, cultivate more outstanding R&D personnel, and enhance the island¡¦s R&D position in Asia and the world.
